The guard captain gives the other two soldiers escorting me a stern
glance. They nod, understanding, and quietly walk away, leaving me alone
with the captain. He pulls me into a small room off the main hallway, a
storage closet of some sort.
"I'm inclined to believe you." he tells me, to my relief. "I don't trust Minister Arif. He never tires of telling people of his supposedly legitimate claim to the throne. His ancestors were suppoedly usurped during the early days of the empire. But that's ancient history now. Also, when I retired to my chambers last night, I noticed some of the guards seemed rather... on edge. Perhaps they were his collaborators, and knew what was to happen last night." "What will you do with me?" I ask. "The Sultan was a great leader and... a good friend. Whether you carry his child or not, I beleive you are innocent in the matter of his murder. I will not allow you to die for another's crime." "Thank you." I reply gratefully. "So, what do you plan to do next? Can't you stop Arif from becoming the next Sultan? I'd hate to see that villian get his wish after what he's done."
