The words of the minister come back to me: "As a slave and concubine of
the Sultan, you will be taught many things. Dance, painting, calligraphy,
music, literature. The Sultan expects his girls to be learned and
interesting." [2154] Going by that, revealing my knowledge of architecture
ought to be a big plus for me. If the Sultan didn't want me to look at the
scrolls, then surely he would have locked them away rather than leaving
them on his desk?
I pick up a scroll, then sit down on one of the couches and start to examine it. It contains a floor plan. Most of it is fairly straightforward, though there are a few symbols dotted about that I'm not familiar with. A couple of minutes later, I hear the door opening. I look up, to see the Sultan looking down at me.
