I feel an odd mixture of emotions: horror at the bloody death I have just
witnessed, elation that Don is free and hope that he might somehow be able
to find and rescue me.
The leader swears loudly, then mutters: "How the Hell?", evidently wondering how one unarmed knight could manage to escape from five armed men. Does a mortally wounded man bringing the news imply that the other four fared even worse than he did, or did some or all of them flee instead? "I must investigate this," the leader tells me. "I'll be back for you later." He goes out, locking the door of the stall behind him. The corpse's clothes are so soaked in blood that I regretfully put aside any thought of putting any of them on. Though feeling rather squeamish, I force myself to go through the man's pockets in the hope of discovering something useful. All I come up with is a few copper coins and a dagger that was in his belt. I wonder whether it might be possible to use the dagger to force the lock on the door of the stall. Its blade seems much stronger than that of the knife that came with the food, which would probably have broken if I had tried to use it.
