Now that Sarah's adrenalin rush was beginning to subside, she started to shake from shock. She stuttered a little, as she replied to Amergin's question as to what had happened. "He w-was spying on me. He j-jumped up and shouted 'Whooo!', and frightened me. I p-picked up a rock and hit him. I haven't k-killed him, have I?"

Amergin bent down and felt for the man's pulse. "You needn't worry about that. His pulse is strong and steady. But I recognise this man. I met him last night, when we both stayed at the same inn...

  2. "He's nobody of any importance, as far as I could tell."
