What Type of Elf?

"Well, that depends, m'lady, on which type of elf you are. Among the
wood elves, there are very few. Among the dark elves, it's a
requirement. Most other types are somewhere in between."
"And which type of elf do you think I am?" asked Sarah. "I could not tell you, m'lady elf." "Well, if you had to guess?" "M'lady, I could not tell you which type of elf you are, because I have never seen an elf with hair that matches yours." "Are you saying I'm a new species of elf?" "It would appear that way, m'lady elf. Perhaps among the elders there are those who have heard stories of one of your kind." "Well, then, we should make for the nearest elven village. Perhaps its elders can tell me where I belong." Anywhere but Manhattan, thought Sarah. As much as she didn't particularly care for her new "improved" body, her life as an elf had to be better than that of a struggling atonal composer. Besides, anything she missed about Manhattan could probably be replaced by something else in this world. "Oh, no, m'lady, we can't go there." "Why not?" "M'lady elf," explained Amergin, "There are two villages roughly two hours' walk from here, one to the east and one to the west, but I would prefer not to visit either of them. The one to the east is inhabited by a particularly nasty group of cultist dark elves; legend has it they convert those they can, and sacrifice all others to their dark lord. Of course, as no one has actually come back from that village once they entered it, I don't know how true the legend is." The dark elves - Sarah thought, based on what Amergin had said before, that she might be able to fit in, at least physically. But the rest of what Amergin said wasn't particularly encouraging. "And the second?" "Oh, after a bad performance a few years ago, I was banned from ever showing up in that village again under penalty of death."
