Andrea came forward into the room, feeling no fear. She supposed that the creature - somehow she found it hard to determine its precise form, and could only tell for sure that it was almost perfectly transparent - must be the curator of the Vault. When it had said "we have been expecting you", did that mean that there were other beings here that she could not see (at least as yet), or was it just its way of speaking?
"Please take a seat," the creature said. Andrea sat down in one of the stone chairs, finding that it was not as uncomfortable as it looked. "So what happens now?" she asked. "I will fetch the items that contain the information that you need to learn." "But the shelves are empty." "You think so?" Andrea thought that she could detect a hint of amusement in the thing's voice. It walked over to the nearest shelf, then stretched out what might have been an arm - or possibly a tentacle - towards it. A scroll appeared to materialise in what might have been its hand. Andrea blinked. How had that happened? The creature walked back to where she sat.
