Castellan Waits

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 99769

With no way out of the room other retracing his steps, which as far as he was aware from his own and Fred's memories would not lead him to an exit from the cave system, Castellan settled down to wait. He decided not to hibernate for now, just in case that might enable Fred to break free of his control. If whoever had set the trap was still alive, then he did not expect to have to wait for very long. It was possible that the trap had been rigged so long ago that the person responsible had since died. In that case he would have to try to break out using his own magic. He could probably do that, if he put in enough time and effort, but it would not be easy. Besides, he was curious to find out who the trap-setter was. Could it be the dragon, as part of his defences against anyone leaving the caves, or was it someone else?

The ghostly princess seemed to have given up following him, as she was nowhere to be seen. He rather regretted that. Looking at her would have been a pleasant way of passing the time as, even as a spirit and hence colourless, she was very beautiful. When he had been a ghost himself, his appreciation would have been of the same kind that he might have had of a beautiful landscape. Now that he was a living man once more, with the appetites that that implied, he could admire her in a much more full-blooded way.

He did not have to wait very long before his triggering of the trap led to the appearance of:

  1. The dragon.
  2. Belboz the necromancer, whom Castellan recognises from long ago.
  3. Belboz the necromancer, who was born well after Castellan had died.
