Despite the intense glare of the light, Fred manages to open the trap door and squeeze through. Once in he gratefully allows the door to slam shut above him.
SLAM ... CLICK! Oops, that sounded permanent. Fred tries the trap door again but finds that it is hopelessly locked. With no other choice, he climbs down to the bottom of the ladder and finds himself confronted with a maze of tunnels.
