The Unexpected Voice

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 99419

Fred decided that it would be silly to be swayed by superstition. And what he had left behind him was hardly attractive. So he took a deep breath and then resumed rowing. Then a woman's voice that seemed to come from right behind him said: "I should turn back if I were you, before it's too late."

Startled and alarmed, Fred leapt to his feet and spun round, unsheathing his sword as he did so, and almost tipping the boat over in the process. But there was no one there. Was he having delusions? Or had one of the ghosts he had seen earlier been hiding on the rowing boat. "Who's there?" he said, feeling rather foolish.

He hadn't really expected an answer, but he got one. "Princess Astra at your service, but you may call me simply Astra."

Recovering a little from his surprise, Fred said: "Lord Frederigo D'Honaire from Allaria. Er, pleased to meet you. Are you a ghost?"

  1. "Yes." The spectral form of a beautiful young woman shimmered into view.
  2. "No. I was cursed to take on the form of a boat. I retain all my senses, though. You might have been more careful when you bumped into those boats. I feel as though I'm bruised all over."
