"Sorry," Fred said as they said down, glad that Old Gek did not seem to be suspicious. "I must have misread the timer. I thought that it said '80' but it must have been '90'."

Fred might have been better advised to have left well alone. "Hmm," Old Gek said. "A nine doesn't look much like an eight." Realising that making an excuse had been a mistake, this time Fred did not reply, hoping that Old Gek would let the matter drop.

  1. Luckily he did.
  2. Unfortunately he didn't.
  3. Just then they were spotted by someone who knew Fred and/or Astra. "Be cool," warned Old Gek under his breath.
