Several hours later, when most of the heAD shop's patrons had left and so the smoke had thinned, Fred and Velus came down from their high. "The hed's gone!" Fred realised. "Someone must have stolen it."

"Perhaps it's just as well," Velus barked. "I feel rather guilty about how we acquired it. Poor Astra! I wonder how she's getting on."

Meanwhile Astra's medical treatment of her "owner" had been effective, and he now knew that she wasn't a unicorn.

  1. Feeling rather guilty at having enslaved her, and grateful for her having tended to his injuries, he removed the restraining jewel from her and let her go free. She went in search of Fred and Velus, seeking revenge.
  2. Thanks to the restraining jewel, she had no choice but to continue to behave as befitted a slave.
