Reaibn had never actually specified to the Aqualarians the deadline by which the Allarian citizens had to be returned. [94053] The Aqualarian commander had undertaken to do so "immediately", but she was unaware that Reaibn interpreted this as having to be by dawn at the latest. (Indeed, but for Belinda Reaibn would have expected it to have been done within the hour, which had been hopelessly unrealistic.) [94104] So though the Aqualarians had been as quick as they could, even as Lt. Ashe went to see her commanding officer with a list which - if things went badly for her - could lead to her court-martial for deliberately misleading a superior officer, dawn was breaking in Caemlyn. The first ray of the rising sun came through a window and fell on the table where Reaibn and the others were finishing their breakfast, clearly visible in spite of the light from the chandelier that hung from the ceiling.
A hush fell on the table as Reaibn looked into the Eye. He saw that the evacuated village was still deserted, nor was there any sign of the villagers between it and the nearby border with Aqualaria. Beyond that border, he could not see. Reaibn did not fly into a rage, since he secretly welcomed this development, though not without a hint of trepidation. [94236] "Your people have reneged on our agreement," he told Astra and Belinda. "I shall have to show them the error of their ways. Lord Fred, you and I are going on a journey, since it is only right that our soon to be king should witness what is done in his name. Meanwhile, since Aqualarians are clearly not to be trusted, I cannot leave the princesses unsupervised while I am gone and free to get up to who knows what mischief. It is back to the dungeon for them." He gestured, and Astra and Belinda vanished from the dining room.
