A mermaid certainly was a vision of beauty. However, Fred quickly learned that they didn't quite smell so heavenly. He wasn't sure if it was the same with all mermaids but this one didn't, certainly not out of the water. Her tail even felt a bit slimy, perhaps not overly so but enough to annoy him, after a while as it flopped about against one of his arms. He tried to put up with the slime and the odor, he truly did, but after walking a certain distance he just couldn't handle it anymore.
"I'm sorry, but what do you expect from me? I can't exactly clean myself as you've told me humans do. The soap would probably poison me!," she complained after Fred had dropped her in a tidal pool and told her about her stench. "Can you at least help me back into the ocean?," she pleaded as her large tail-fin splashed the water in the tidal pool. "You can just wait until the tide comes in. If you can keep that tail of your's from splashing it all out," he remarked coldly as he tried to get the slime off his arm. This caused the mermaid to try to keep her tail as still as possible to try to conserve the water surrounding her. It was already low enough that the bend in her tail where a knee would have been was poking above the surface. Fred began walking off to see if he was back at the same beach or if Crystal had brought him to a different one. As he walked off, he heard a splash and a curse as the water in the tidal pool dropped to only cover her scaly bottom.
