"We're out of the caves!" Fred realised. Then he saw that the light was so bright, not because it was sunny as he had initially assumed, but because there were six moons in the sky.

"What on Earth!" he gasped.

"I think you mean 'not on Earth'," Exotica - who had had a little time to get used to the idea - said. "While you were unconscious the boat must have taken us through some sort of portal. One moment the canal was passing through the tunnel, and the next we were out in the open, with nothing but forest in all directions. Apart from the canal of course."

  1. The boat keeps on going.
  2. A landing stage comes into view ahead. The boat glides up to it and stops, luckily rather more gently than it had accelerated after they boarded.
