Seeing the farmhand and not realising that he was a friend, Fred dropped the box and went to draw his sword. Seeing this, Astra leant forward and said: "It's all right, Fred. He's..."

But that was as far as she got. Unfortunately the beam that she was sitting on had woodworm and had been greatly weakened. The shifting of her weight caused it to produce an ominous cracking sound, as it broke into two pieces whose weight caused them to end up sloping downwards at steep angles.

  1. Taken by surprise, Astra fell.
  2. Astra managed to grab another beam higher up, and finished up dangling from it.
  3. Unfortunately the beam had a major part in supporting the roof, and so the whole roof fell in on them.
