"Well that was weird," Stacy said to Paula. "That was Ellen De Generes. She just hung up on me when I told her that I'd lost my memory. She seemed to think that I had some sort of job on her show. But didn't you tell me that I'd given up my job to work full time on a book that I was writing?" [6934]

"Yeah. Could she have mistaken you for someone else? After all, it was you who rang her, remember? [7038] And you told her your name. Perhaps she knows another Stacy?"

"I suppose that's possible. But she referred to my supposed phenomenal memory, which is something that you mentioned too."

"Coincidence? There must be more than one Stacy with a phenomenal memory in New York."

"Maybe. Anyway the most important thing is that she reckoned that there's an epidemic of amnesia, so it seems that I'm not the only one. She said that it's all over the news."

"Could be, I suppose. I haven't heard any news bulletins today."

  1. Stacy puts on the TV in the hope of having what Ellen said confirmed.
  2. Stacy tries the next speed dial number in the hope of finding her brother. [7029] (She hopes to borrow some money to finance herself and Paula going to Alabama. [6911])
  3. The white SUV turns up outside Stacy's apartment block. [7081] Looks like Stacy must be the right Stacy after all. So why did Paula tell her that she had given up her job? And how come Stacy's broke if she has a job?
