To Boldly Go Where no *Man* has Gone Before

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 9530

"So why did you bring me here?" Fred asked, when the preistess had left.

"I have something to show you," said Astra. "You shall see that which no man has set eyes on before. Follow me." Astra left the room, and Fred reluctantly followed. She came to the largest of the statues that Fred had seen earlier. Fred still couldn't tell wether it was male or female, but he could tell that it was holding some sort of stone with glyphs carved on it. It was a representation of the one Fred had found. Astra placed her hand on the stone and uttered some arcane words. A door opened up at the feet of the statue. Astra entered it, and Fred followed.

Fred found himself in a strange room. What he saw there was awe-inspiring. It was a great stone monolith, enscribed with the same sort of glyphs as the Stone of Destiny, and it was glowing with a strange purple light.

"That," said Astra, "is the Malabra. It is our most sacred object. Only the Queen herself and the chosen Bearer of the Petrasyph are allowed to see it. It allows the Elementals to communicate with us. Those glyphs are the history of our people, from the pact of Mistress Cycilia until the present day. This is the object that Zerm and Myrddin want. If they harness its power, they will have enough power to take over Aquilaria and all the world, unless they are stopped."

"I suppose that the Petrasyph is that artifact I found," said Fred. "Butr who's Zerm?"

"You are correct about the Petrasyph," said Astra. "The Petrasyph, or Stone of Destiny in the common tounge, was created by the Elementals to protect our people. In times of crisis, it chooses a representative to help save our people, the Bearer of the Petrasyph. As for Zerm, or more properly Zerm the Second he is a mad sorcerer who is an ally of Myrrdin. His father tried to steal the Malabra, but was stopped. Now, Zerm the Second is trying to steal the Malabra to increase his power. Only you can stop him."

Fred and Astra then exited the Malabra room. "I have one last thing to say," said Astra. "A warning. Not everyone is as charitable toward the idea of accepting help from a man as I am. Watch your back." Then, she called for a guard to escort Fred back to his prison.
