Dangerous Things, Buckets

As the guards left, laughing and joking together, Jenkins couldn't resist bending over to give her upraised butt a pinch. Taken by surprise, Astra jerked, in the process managing to knock over her bucket. On hands and knees as she was, almost her entire body was doused in what by now was cold and filthy water.

Naturally this resulted in great merriment against the guards, made all the greater by her fluent cursing. "I wonder where she learnt such language," one of the guards said. Luckily for him and his fellows, since she was on her knees with her back to them as they left, she was in no position to take immediate revenge.

By the time she had scrambled to her feet the men had left, and she had calmed down a fraction. "Looks like that's the end of my cleaning," she told Lord James, setting the now empty pail upright.

"My feet got splashed."

"Tough. I'm going to find Belboz and see if he can provide me with some new clothes. These rags were bad enough before, but now they're soaked."

"Yes, they're sticking to you in a most interesting way."

Fighting down the temptation to give him a slap, Astra picked up her bucket, mop and brush, turned on her heel, and left without another word. She made her way back to where Exotica was chained up.

1. By this time Belboz and the Captain had left for Belboz's private quarters, so Exotica was alone.
2. Belboz and the Captain had been delayed by Exotica amusing herself by coming up with a long list of minor complaints.
