Fire!

Astra looked across at him. His face was a rather disgusting sight, covered by half a dozen sores of the forty or so that he had in total by now. She knew that her own face must look no better. "It seems unlikely that it's Reaibn. I suspect that it's just our bad luck. It looks as though we are going to have to make a detour, which will probably add at least a couple of hours to our journey time. That's not good, as the effect of the cat's spell is starting to wear off. On me, at least."

"On me too. We passed a trail going off almost at right-angles about 15 minutes back. I suppose that we are going to have to take it, and then hope that we can find not too long a detour round the fire."

1. They retrace their steps, and take the other trail.
2. But a stiff breeze is blowing the fire quickly towards them, and it starts to look as if they won't be able to outrun it.
3. A Reaibn-craziness tormented group of faeries is no longer human friendly. Unfortunately the detour takes Fred and Astra into their territory unknowingly.
