"I'm not sure," Belinda admitted. "There's what, eight or nine hours till dawn. Had it been during the day, it would have been straightforward, but our troops will have to go to all the homes and hostels where the evacuees will have been billeted, wake them up and get them to return. Having only just been moved out, I don't suppose that they'll be over-pleased at being expected to go back again so soon. Our commander did say that they would be returned immediately, but I don't know whether she will have quite appreciated the urgency. The troops will have had a hard day, and she may be reluctant to keep them working all night as well. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed. We've seen how mercurial Reaibn's moods are. Perhaps he will be more amenable in the morning."

The three diners got to their feet. "I wonder where we're supposed to sleep," Astra said. "Reaibn omitted to tell us before he vanished."
