As yet, the person carrying the torch was still too far away for Astra to be able to make out any details. (In that direction, the passage ran for a long way in a straight line, suggesting that perhaps it had been created long ago by magic rather than by the forces of nature.)

I do hope that it's Fred, Astra thought. It really ought to be Fred. Assuming that he wasn't just an hallucination that is.

As the figure drew closer, she saw that it was:

  1. Lord Fred, looking just as she remembered him.
  2. An impressive-looking middle-aged man in fine robes. "I am the Dragon, your captor," he said politely. "You don't look like a dragon." That's because I am a shape-shifter, and am both the Dragon and a human mage."
  3. A dwarf.
  4. To her surprise, a woman.
  5. Someone from the Enterprising Inn! Could it be that being chained up in the caves is the hallucination, and that the inn was real after all?
