Belinda gasped, as she found herself standing at Reaibn's side facing the
Aqualarian army at a range of perhaps twenty yards. Either this was a
different division or the original one had been re-equipped remarkably
quickly, as the soldiers seemed well-armed and well-armoured. Behind them
she could see in the distance what must be the border town whose
inhabitants had been taken into Aqualaria.
Some of the soldiers made as if to charge forward when they saw Belinda and Reaibn, while the archers started fitting arrows to their bows. But Reaibn held up his hand, and they all found themselves frozen. "My Aqualarian friends," he said in a penetrating voice that even those at the rear could clearly hear, "why have you engaged in acts of war against us? I hope that I did not alarm you when I took your Princess Belinda back to Caemlyn with me so that we could discuss the current situation. This discussion was most amicable and very productive. Resulting from it, I have an announcement to make. Belinda has kindly consented to be my wife. Furthermore, Princess Astra has agreed to marry our new king, Frederigo the Magnificent, and will thus become our Queen. These marriages will symbolise the great friendship between our two nations. Is that not right, my dear?"
