"I should clarify that your sores vanishing was the result of my healing
magic in combination with the ointment," Walter said as they finished
their tea. "Once you leave, the ointment on its own will only take away
the pain, so I am afraid that you are going to finish up looking rather
disgusting until and unless you encounter another magical healer, though
hopefully you will not be too uncomfortable. When you get sores on spots
that you can't reach, Fred will have to apply Astra's ointment and vice
versa. Once you have a large number of sores, you will probably need to
strip off to apply it effectively. My best guess is that an application
will leave the sores reasonably painless for about twelve hours, except
of course for the new ones that have arrived since the last application.
I have made sure that you have enough of the ointment that you shouldn't
run out... Ah, here is Bartholomew. Are the horses ready?"
"Yes, they are tied up outside." "Good. Fred and Astra, while you were drinking your tea I got together some supplies for your journey, as well as a couple of blankets in case you have to sleep outdoors. I will put everything in the saddle bags, along with the ointment." "Thank you for all your help," Fred said. "Bartholomew too. We are greatly in your debt. I hope that you won't face retribution from Reaibn or from those children." "I don't think so," Walter said, "but thank you for your concern." Soon Fred and Astra were riding off, with Walter's and Bartholomew's good wishes ringing in their ears. They set off at a good gallop, but not a flat-out one, as they needed to conserve the stamina of their mounts. They would travel for as long as possible before taking a break, as the further they could get away from Caemlyn, and hence from Reaibn, the better.
