"We should try to make our way to my own land," Astra said. "Our High Sorceress may have some ideas of how Reaibn can be dealt with."

"I agree. Though it will be a lengthy journey, I can't think of anywhere any closer where we might get effective help."

They were just outside the city by now. They took the dirt road that led south, ready to hide in the bushes beside the road if they saw any traffic on it. "We can hope that Reaibn's power doesn't extend beyond the city," Astra said, "but we don't want anybody seeing us and telling him where we are."

"Oh Reaibn knows exactly where you are," a voice said, seemingly coming from mid-air and making them jump. "It is entirely up to you whether you decide to return and fulfil my wishes. But you should know that at the end of every complete hour that you choose to spend outside the castle gates:

1. "Fred will become a bit more effeminate and Astra a bit more masculine, until eventually you will both be complete hermaphrodites."
2. "You will each transform little by little into gorillas, though retaining your human intelligence."
3. "You will each acquire an unsightly sore somewhere on your body which will itch abominably."
4. "Your hair will grow six inches longer. Which may not sound like a great problem, but in twenty-four hours time you will be trying to drag twelve feet of hair behind you if you don't return."
