"The only reason that I'm living in these draughty caves is that I was banished from Allaria some years ago. I want you to seduce King Emry and, when he's completely besotted with you, get him to agree to lift my banishment."

"But that would take weeks!" Astra objected. "Even with a good horse, just the journey to Caemlyn would take me at least seven days. Goodness knows how long it would take to get the king besotted with me. And then there's the journey back."

"Is there some time limit that you are under? The dragon has perhaps said that he will kill your sisters if you don't return to him within a certain time?"

"Well no, but..."

Astra was about to add that the dragon would think it very odd if she did not return for weeks on end, but Belboz interrupted her. "I can magically transport you to Caemlyn, so that getting there will take you no time at all. I'll give you forty-eight hours to seduce Emry and get him to agree that I can return home, and then I'll bring you back here the same way."

Astra had another objection. "What makes you think that I can manage to seduce King Emry at all, let alone so quickly? I don't have any false modesty about my appearance - I know that men find me very attractive - but by all accounts the king is happily married."

I'll give you an aphrodisiac powder that you can slip into his drink. Make sure that you are the first person that he sees after drinking it, and he'll become obsessed with you. He won't be able to rest until he's bedded you."

1. Astra sighed. "Very well, I'll do it."
2. "I won't do it. The whole idea is crazy and could never work."
