Even if Astra had been able to see the man's face, she wouldn't have
known that it was Josh Burbank, since he rightfully belonged a thousand
years in her future. She merely notes that he is very unusually dressed.
(Being Josh, he is actually oddly dressed by the standards of our own
time, not just Astra's.)
"You poor thing," she says. "Hold still, and I'll try and remove the rug for you. I'm afraid that it might hurt a bit." Looking around, she sees a small but quite sharp knife, probably intended for trimming carpets to size. With this, she carefully cuts away the rug, leaving no more than a few threads embedded in his cheeks, forehead and chin, which could not have been removed without cutting into his flesh. Now that he can see his naked rescuer, his vision previously having been blocked by the rug, Josh says:
