With some difficulty, Fred managed to tear his attention away from the
two beautiful naked women wrestling with one another. If the former
dragon should manage to retrieve the book, he suspected that she could
use it to transform herself back into her original form. From Fred's
point of view, that would clearly be a very bad thing. If, on the other
hand, the former bear should win the fight and get the book, Fred had a
feeling that this would be very nearly as bad. So he grabbed the book
while the women were otherwise occupied, and considered what he should do
with it.
The best thing, he decided, would be to destroy it. Unfortunately burning it was not an option; his tinderbox had been in his backpack, and his backpack had been locked away in a chest by the bear. [82] But there was a stream not too far away, and a good dowsing in that would surely render the book's contents illegible.
