As she had on so many days in recent weeks, Lady Elizabeth Ragan paced
restlessly about her
room, pausing only to avoid tripping over her cat. It had been over three
months now since
her fiancé, Sir Tristram, departed on his quest to kill the dragon,
and there had been no word from him since. To make matters worse,
her fat and smelly neighbour, Lord Coverly, had recently starting
dropping heavy hints that Tristram was now unlikely to return, and that
she could
do much worse than marry him.
Finally coming to a decision, Lady Elizabeth called for her maid. She asked the maid to get the groom to saddle her horse, to ask the kitchen to prepare provisions for a long journey, and then to get out her (Elizabeth's) riding clothes.
