Hannah the Lockpicker

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 91717

Luckily the blue energy did not extend as far as Astra's wrists or ankles, as Hannah wasn't sure what would happen to her if she tried to reach through it. In fact, though the energy field was almost perfectly opaque it only covered roughly the same regions as a rather skimpy bikini would have done. Astra explained that the spell drew on her own body's energy, and she had had to make a trade off between the amount of skin that it covered and how much of her vitality it would drain. At its current size the drain was negligible, but it would increase rapidly if she chose to cover more of herself.

In the time that it took her to explain this, Hannah had unpicked the locks on the shackles on both wrists and both ankles, using a hairpin which luckily had been something that Belboz had put in her hair as part of her transformation. "Thank you!" Astra said, massaging her arms and legs. "How did you manage to do that so quickly - or at all for that matter? You give the appearance of being a simple peasant girl of only fifteen or so, but lockpicking hardly seems compatible with that."

  1. "I don't know. But there are great gaps in my memory. I seem to know very little about myself."
  2. A (fake) memory popped into Hannah's mind. "I had a job to help the village locksmith for a while. Just on Saturdays, to earn a little money. Occasionally people would lock themselves out, and he would help them. I just watched what he did."
  3. "The locks were amazingly primitive. Anyone with a pin of some sort could easily have picked them. I suppose that whoever did this didn't anticipate anyone finding you, and so didn't think that anything better was needed."
