The doctor tell Fred that replacing the troll's legs is going to take a
long time, and directs him (that's Fred) to a comfy chair and gives him a
book to read while waiting. Tired from the long walk and further bored by
the provided reading material, Fred soon lapses into a coma.
He awakens much later in a dark place, noticing that he is moving in an unfamiliar way and can't feel his legs. He can, however, still smell his feet, and eventually discovers that they are not strictly his any more. He is now the legless one, riding on the back of the troll who is walking ON HIS LEGS! "Ah, you're awake," Belboz observes as Fred starts screaming incoherently. "As you can probably tell, the operation was a success, and we have covered a couple of miles since then. We are getting closer to the dragon's lair, but since you are not really in any shape to fight, we thought we'd drop you off somewhere safe." "Success?!" Fred howls. "My... my legs!" "Well, the good doctor couldn't just make new legs out of nothing, could he? He considered my legs first but they were too scrawny." "And you just stood there and let him take my legs?!" Belboz shrugs. "I'm a necromancer. Switching and replacing body parts is pretty standard fare in my profession. Anyway you must admit it's better to have the troll carry you than you carry the troll."
