With the great power that Elaine now had, it was no problem for her to
teleport herself to an adjacent cavern to the one where her former
friends currently were. Then she walked the short distance between the
two caves.
Now that her eyes were blind, she could not see the expressions on their faces when they saw her. But with her new magical sense she could feel their alarm. "It's all right!" she called. "I managed to get the ring off. See!" She held up both her hands. "I am no longer under Belboz's influence. I am deeply ashamed of the bad things that I have done. However I'm afraid that, without the ring, I can't undo them." For she knew that, if she were to undo the changes in them they would see that her power was undiminished and would assume that she still had the ring. (Though the greater part of her power now came from the dragon- fire, that was something that she did not want to reveal. She knew it would alarm them even more.) Of course, if she could not admit to her power, it did raise the question of how she was going to restore Sigin without anyone, even Sigin himself, suspecting. She went on: "When I removed the ring, after a great mental struggle, it left me with a curse. I am now blind." "So how did you manage to find us?" Fred asked. "My own innate magical ability was just great enough for me to do so."
