Gloria's Idea

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 89485

Astra shook her head to indicate her scepticism. She found it hard to believe that a rope would be strong enough for her to be lifted out without the rope snapping. Nor did she think that human muscle-power would be up to the task of lifting her.

Gloria responded: "If you are thinking that we would be unable to pull you out, I was thinking of hitching up horses. Or perhaps mules or even oxen might be better, if we could get hold of some. We could use say five ropes and, with you lying down, run one underneath you at your waist, and tie others around each wrist and around each ankle, so that each would only have to take about a fifth of your weight. What do you think?"

Astra took her time to think this over. Her steingeweiser mind did not find concepts such as this easy to handle, at least when expressed to her in words. If Gloria had been capable of transmitting a vision to her of what she had in mind, it would probably have seemed a lot clearer. Eventually:

  1. She nodded her assent.
  2. She shook her head again. She thought that there was still too much risk of a rope snapping. And once one snapped, the extra weight was likely to lead to the rest following suit. Though she seemed almost indestructible, she was reluctant to risk falling.
