Before Astra could correct the co-ordinates, she unexpectedly found herself floating out of the navigator's chair. "What the f***!?" she growled. (Actually she always growled, her voice box and vocal cords being built that way, but this was even more of a growl than usual.) "Why have you switched off the artificial gravity?"

Meanwhile Fred was being pressed down into the pilot's seat. "I haven't," he protested. "I though that you must have messed about with the gravity setting yourself. My own weight seems to have roughly doubled."

"But that's impossible," Astra protested, extending a furry arm to push herself away from an approaching bulkhead. "How can I be weightless and you be experiencing 2g? It doesn't make sense."

"I have a theory."
"I've no idea."
Just at that moment, the effect switches, with Fred becoming weightless and Astra undergoing 2g. Very luckily, she falls into her well-padded chair and so isn't hurt. Being seven feet tall and built to match, weighing double takes her up to around 450lb.
