"Very well," Vedagaisic said. "But a horse is a valuable item, and I
think that the best thing would be for him to return from here with me.
He will have time to rest while your people are talking to me, and if
that does not take very long then I can always delay leaving for a little
while. It will be easy enough for me to lead him at the end of a rope.
Balischo will be disappointed, though. He was hoping to have a fine tale
to tell of meeting your queen, one that might impress the girls. Don't
tell him that I told you about that, though."
"I had thought that you would be the better person to talk to the officials of the court, since you are clearly older and more assured than he is. If it's any consolation to him, I am doubtful that you will actually get to talk to Her Majesty in person. But I suppose that you could accompany me and he could be the one to proceed into the city, if you think that would be better." Vedagaisic considered for a moment. He was tempted to agree to the switch, as what faced him here was, being something totally outside his experience, a little daunting. But it would be even more daunting for the less experienced Balischo. It would hardly be fair to expect him to cope with it on his own. "No," he said. "I think that it would be better to stick with your original plan."
