It was a bright, sunny morning, and when Astra woke she could think
clearly once more. Viana came up to her, and described what she had seen
when Astra had attempted to transmit a vision to her. "Everything seemed
fuzzy," she told her. "I briefly saw some brown strips, and some yellow
and white roundish things. I thought that they might be meant to be the
sun, except that there were two of them. Then it all went back to being a
mush."
It was clear to both Viani and Astra as a result of the experiment that Dunchovian torches might be bright enough to enable her to pass through the caves, but only just, and it would be risky. She would probably not be able to communicate effectively. Astra recalled that some parts of the cave system had been fairly well lit, but others had not. Also much of what lighting there was might have been provided by the dragon, by either mundane or magical means, and with his death might well have vanished or deteriorated. Astra now felt more than ever that it was necessary to get across the message that aid from Aqualaria was essential. An Aqualarian sorceress could enchant a torch so that it would burn with what was known as "magelight": a brilliant white light that would burn for many hours before the torch was exhausted. With that, she thought that she should suffer little if any degradation in her abilities. She attempted to explain this to Viani in a vision. She showed herself with a mixture of Dunchovians and Aqualarians, gathered outside the cave entrance. With them was a woman dressed as an Aqualarian sorceress. The woman enchanted a torch to burn with the magelight and then passed it to Astra, who then led the force into the caves.
