When the dragon saw that Fred was chained up next to Astra, he burst into laughter, wrapping his fore-limbs around his upper body and rocking helplessly from side to side.

Realising that he would never have a better chance to slay the beast, Velus swiftly drew Fred's sword from its scabbard and thrust it point-first at the dragon's chest.

  1. The magic on the sword might not have been effective against Astra's chains, but perhaps it helped against the dragon's scales. At any event, the sword went deep into his chest and through his heart.
  2. But the sword just bounced off the dragon's scales.
