Astra Tries Flattery

"Coming back with Fred, when you were under no obligation to, seems pretty heroic to me, especially considering what the dragon did to you before. And there's no great trick to using a sword. You have a fine muscular arm, and Fred and I will give you some coaching."

Astra hoped that her flattery would work. She had rather lost faith in the Wizard of Kamiro after the failure of the magicked sword, so was not keen on the alternative plan of sending Velus back to fetch him. Besides, doing that would mean another long delay, and she felt that she had already been in her chains far too long. She did feel a slight pang of guilt, though. She knew that if Velus agreed, the most likely outcome was that the dragon would kill him.

1. "All right," Velus said. "I'll do it."
2. "Sorry, Princess," Velus said. "I'm not so stupid as Fred. You can't butter me up so easily."
3. Before Velus could reply, the dragon arrived, alerted by a magical alarm that someone had tried to tamper with Astra's chains.
