Astra Fungae

"What's happening?" she yelled in fright.

"I'm just reincarnating you in the hardest-to-adapt-to form there is. It's not human, it's not animal... heck, it isn't even a plant!"

Astra felt herself shrinking. "But what is it?"

"You are to be reborn as a foot fungus."

"A what?"

"A foot fungus that grows on one of my alternate incarnations. But don't think of this as punishment, for you'll soon be able to move up in the life following that one. If you're really lucky, that version of Fred may even wash his feet once in awhile!

"Fre-e-e-e-e-ed!" Astra yelled.

"I'm sending you down now; oh, and I'll have to alter your memory a tinge. So long, Astra! Say hello to me when you get there!"

1. Before Astra could object, or even contemplate what was happening, her new life began...
2. As Astra shimmered away, Fred couldn't help but feel some remorse. Had he really been the cause of her death in that other universe? Oh well, just another day on the job. He looked up to see the next person arriving at the gates...
