"We couldn't risk their reporting us to the Galactic Council," the alien
went on, "since even though we've signed no treaties they might take a dim
view if they knew we were abducting sentient beings." Stacy and Robert
looked at him (her? it?) in appalled horror. Before they could say or do
anything, though, another of the aliens broke in. "Leader, shall we
destroy the other ship?" "Why bother wasting the energy?" said the alien leader. "There's no one on board any more. Let it go." "Yes, leader," the alien replied. Through the round widows, Stacy could see the other ship. It continued hovering for a moment, then appeared to be settling back to the ground. Stacy wondered if that were some sort of emergency procedure, in the absence of instructions from the crew. "Set course for Ragania, navigator!" said the alien leader.
