Regardless, she looked quizzically at Astra, for she had not understood a
single word she had said. Subsequently, the specter drifted back down and
fell into the cold, tumultuous pool once more. Just then, Fred could be heard yelling from his perch atop the platform. “Would you take a look at this!” he trumpeted excitedly. He was holding up the mysterious red rock that he’d found in the market [2009], only now it was glowing brilliantly – whether by chance or fate, Astra was unsure, as oft times it seems the two are inexplicably interwoven. “Toss it here!” she yelled back.Fred seemed to hesitate before responding, “Are you sure you’ll be able to catch it?” “Oh come off it, Fred!”“Fine, fine,” he muttered. The ruddy rock was probably cursed anyway, he surmised, and if it fell into the pool, all the better. He launched it across the water some fifty feet, and Astra snatched it out of the air quite easily. With one hand, no less. “Nice catch!” Fred exclaimed. “For a girl,” he quietly intoned. “Okay, I’m going to investigate this tunnel!” she informed him.“Are you sure that’s such a good idea?” “I’m going with my instinct on this one. And this glowing ruby seems to be a good omen – as it shall light my way.”“Well, alright,” he yielded. “But, do be careful!” “Don’t worry, I will. You stay here and keep an eye out. I won’t be long, I promise!”Fred turned to Velus and shrugged. “I guess there’s no stopping her. All of this ghostly nonsense isn’t quite my style. I mean, let the dead be! Why meddle in the affairs of the netherworld?”
