Yaivaine pouted but, seeing that Fred's mind was made up, held her tongue.

"I'm going to suck as much poison out of the wound as I can," Fred said. "Then I must tie as tight a tourniquet as possible around his leg above the wound, to try to stop the poison from spreading too quickly. Here's my dagger. While I'm busy sucking, I want you to cut a strip off the bottom of your dress for the tourniquet."

1. Yaivaine complied.
2. Yaivaine complied, but petulantly cut off a far wider strip than was necessary, thereby baring her legs to mid-thigh.
3. Yaivaine flatly refused.
