A Primarch or Two Fall Victim to a Reoccurring Theme

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 87639

Yukiko

I find that with the aid of my new sisters I quickly recover from the more than unsettling news they provided me about my true purpose

"So . . ." Rei begins, only to be interrupted by the small and reedy cry of a red haired baby that Buffy--a name I only know her by through the means of my sisters calling her by that odd name-- now trying to comfort in her arms without much success.

Buffy the Angel frowns and then disappears from the screen and then reappears next to us, handing the crying bundle to me of all people. Why me? Of all here, I know that I am the LAST person who is qualified at quieting a child, even IF I know that our little one here is in serious need of diapers.

Not saying that she has soiled her diaper and needs to have them changed, no. I am saying that she is NOT wearing diapers at all and we all can see easily that "she" is a "she", as it were.

"Goo?" the red haired child queries, sniffling a little as . . . she stops crying and looks up into my obviously befuddled face. It is as if . . .I almost seem to know just HOW to hold this . . .precious child without even thinking.

How is this possible? And why is it those giant men over behind us seems to be making odd sounds and are pointing at the blanket this little bundle came wrapped in? I mean I find a double headed eagle to be somewhat less than comforting for an infant to have (rather warlike somehow).

And WHY is one of them dressed in that gaudy western full plate armour?

Warmaster Horus

"What is the meaning of that blanket?" I ask this . . . angel (for want for a better term) a second before the Emperor does. "One must have to admit—IF they are in the know about the Primarchs of the Imperium of Man—that if this is a jest it is in VERY poor taste."

Might have also directed that question to "Walker" (or whatever/whoever that strange woman was awhile ago), but she’d muttered some kind of curse about needing to attend to some "Omnimessiah rubbish business getting entirely out of hand AGAIN" and had vanished into thin air, just like she’d never been here.

. . .

I don’t know. I don’t know and I do NOT want to know what that was all about. I mean I know that Father . . .the Emperor had been tagged as the Omnimessiah by the Cult of Mechanus and he’d only tolerated that because we . . .he’d needed those Martian’s with their technical knowledge to make the Imperium what it was. Somehow I . . .don’t think she means to bring harm to the Imperium by trying something idiotic like usurping the Emperor’s position and gaining power, but…

No, I don’t want to know. Just a stranger here in the end who’d be DAMN lucky to even be accepted into the service of this warped version of the Imperium I’d come from as a lowly Public Defense Force penal battalion conscript!

I’d be damn lucky to get a broken lazgun and stuck on the front lines facing these ‘Nids I’ve heard horror stories about, what with the reputation this reality’s Horus earned himself with that Horus Heresy. Probably am only being spared a bolter round to the head by my father’s grace here.

No, I am a guest here and guests of the Imperium and of the Emperor would be wise indeed to not attempt to push or prod the Emperor on such delicate matters. That issue is of a personal nature of the Emperor and the Imperium and I am NOTHING but an outsider. Best leave it alone and let him attend to his business and be glad he’s going to let me and my companions do our business and be gone soon enough.

Maybe sometime later diplomatic relations could be established between realities and Imperiums (I know I could find my way back here via Warp travel with my eyes closed), but not right now.

Still, there is ONE thing that must be said, guests or not…and that is THIS business.

"That . . .is something in lines I was going to ask," my father (or the analog of my father if one must be pedantic) states after glancing at me briefly, nodding. "Though I freely admit Warmaster Horus here was a bit more polite in his demands than I would be, given the circumstances in how I had invested in the Primarch program… "

"Yeah, it hit hurt you deeply when those #@$% Warp Gods went and kidnapped them all and scattered over the galaxy," Buffy sympathized, interrupting.

I cannot help but wince slightly at that one, but thankfully Father does not take the interruption badly. Apparently, he even seems somewhat mollified at Buffy’s insight into the matter.

MY Father had confided in me that while he had been VERY happy to have found all but two of my wayward Primarch brothers after the kidnapping, he had wished that he COULD have been their to help raise us. Nice to see that this version of my father is like that as well, really.

"Not to mention setting your master plans to save humanity from the Warp and all that, I feel you there, Emperor," Buffy continued. "So trust me at least when I tell you I did not bring her here to bring back hurtful feelings of yank your chains. See, the thing here is this. . .next bit of news. Think you might want to brace yourself here guys."

"Now what I’m going to say next is going to be somewhat hard to swallow at first," Buffy finally says after a few seconds at seeing us waiting patiently, getting around to explaining just WHY this girl infant just happened to have a blanket with one of the two Legions who’s intended Primarch’s life had been snuffed out from existence well BEFORE the glories they could have brought forth.

After all, if not a trace of their lifeforce could have been detected even by the MOST powerful Psyker ever to exist (the Emperor of Mankind), anywhere in the heavens after and exhausting effort on his part, then it was pretty much a GIVEN that they were gone and gone for all time!

Thus was the reason their records had been stricken from any archive. Father had been VERY upset about it, and leave at that.

Honestly, I even now feel sadness at the loss of a brother I’ll never get to know…. And I feel sadness at what I shall soon have to do to some of my fellow Primarchs I fear have fallen into the clutches of Chaos once I return home.

That and after everything else today, I find it rather odd the idea that I and the Emperor could find anything this odd Angel could tell us?

. . .

What IS up with the circuitry tattoos? Some kind of Terra Prime issue I didn’t get or overlooked from Rei’s memories of that odd but fantastic world? I know from my studies of earlier ages that there had been no Judeo-Christian mentions of high tech memes in any of their holy books, let me tell you up front here and now!

Yes, what could this Angel (as she manifests herself as) say to shock us?

We have today dealt with young girls who had been anime giant mecha pilots turned magic girls (albeit the more traditional spell casting kind than the kind like Sailor Moon over yonder).

I had to swallow the idea that I had been bested by an anime magic girl who (like in a LOT of. Maybe that was for the best. Keeps a body’s ego from growing too overweening, that… And besides, for Frething hells sake, while perhaps Rei’s and Setsuna’s battles might have paled into insignificance in violence content compared to what I and my Legion faced alone it still had much more dire consequences for failure. If I lose a battle, a planet may be destroyed or overran. Bad but in end (and nothing to be dismissive of), but if THEY had lost a battle with an Angel or a Youma Lord? Might have been the extinction of the human race, that!!

That is something I had not faced and maybe only the Emperor and the Space Marines here on "Holy" Terra faced during the Horus Heresy!

. . .

I shudder to think what the Space Marines have faced due to the Ruinous Powers making themselves more widely known, as it were, to the galaxy at large after that damnable Horus Heresy business.

That and the quick glance I and the Emperor secretly took at the power levels Setsuna had at her beck and call…. Well, let us just say that I do not feel as much of a twit as I had earlier… Sealed away or not, that young woman has attached to her being godlike powers which could equal the Emperor. Mixing magic with Psyker powers at that level? Might have something rivaling a supernova, for the love of Terra!

We of the Imperium of Mankind might like powerful weapons. Powerful weapons that could wipe a planet out. Glassing the surface or turning it into rubble with enough ships, I say. However, that is even excessive even for ME!

"First, that little girl over their IS a Primarch," Buffy says, holding up a hand to forestall the protests of how ridiculous that is. "Ya see, like with some of the Primarchs the trip through the Warp during the kidnapping she got . . .altered a little more than others. ‘Cept with her and the other wayward they didn’t get things like angelic wings like Sanguinius or all cyclopey like Magnus the Red . . .Well…"

You . . .have got to be KIDDING me! I’d . . .say that aloud in protest but I’m too busy sputtering over this and . . .the Emperor’s rather out of sorts about this as well.

"Asuka over their as well as Mari Illustrious Makinami arrived on Yukiko’s world/reality transformed into female infants and got adopted by their parents there," Buffy reveals, well indeed . "Due to the axioms of that reality they could never manifest themselves as Primarchs can here.

"THAT is why in addition having been kicked into another reality you couldn’t find any trace of their Psyker presence out there . . .because they could not manifest as Psykers but something more . . .normal there," the angel finishes up. "Normal or not, however . . .they were prime candidates for the EVA pilot program . . ."

  1. "Buff, now wait just a bloody minute here," Rei interrupts, stepping into this fray before I and the Emperor find ourselves even MORE out to sea here.
