Astra charged into the room, with Fred close behind her.

  1. In the room on the far side were the two clowns. (Or maybe they weren't the same ones. In their clown costumes and masks they all looked the same.) They cowered away from Astra.
  2. In the room on the far side were the two clowns. They didn't seem to be intimidated by the hulking Astra, nor by Fred for that matter.
  3. In the room on the far side were two male ogres, presumably victims of the same reality change that had affected Astra.
  4. In the room on the far side were two ducks - or drakes, to be more precise - presumably victims of the same reality change that had affected Astra.
  5. The room on the far side was unoccupied. But since it had been locked, Fred thought that it must contain something of value.
  6. There was no room on the far side of the door, just a continuation of the passage.
