Loose Ends

Diana walked back to the balcony passageway and beckoned Fred to come nearer, so as not to disturb the child.

She said, "Fred, we have many enemies down here."

Fred replied, "The dragon is what I came for."

"He might be in league with some powerful beings. What did that troll tell you?"

"His name is Rick. He claims that he is a gentle knight that was turned into a troll by Zenobia, a witch."

"Why would Zenobia leave him to wander in the caves, and leave his mind whole? I would have thought that she would have killed him."

"Do you think Rick is lying?"

"It could be."

"And what do you think about the child?"

"I would have thought that Zenobia would be living in a fine manor or castle. I had always thought of her as being a court mage in one of the small duchies. But if she had a desire to be left alone, then it would make sense that she would live in a land much like this."

"And so this child might have something to do with Zenobia?"

"Yes. She may have kidnapped it. Or it might be hers - and could be dangerous. If we are in Zenobia's castle, the dragon may not be the most dangerous of hazards."

"What do you suggest doing?"

1. "Open the door on the left side of the room, and see what else lies here."
2. "Get out of here - and get back to the caves."
3. "Take our chances and wake the child. Children will tell you things that adults will not."
