Fred says "Well, I don't know how I can help...but I can't be any worse off
than I am now."
The old dwarfs fingers work with the rope and soon Fred is free. Fred rubs his numb legs and then wobbles to his feet. "Here", says the old dwarf, "I believe this is a friend of yours." And reaching into his worn robe, he pulls out a small wiggly creature. "WOOFY!" exclaims Fred, "I was afraid I"d lost you forever!" As Fred flings his arms around the puppy. Calming the excited puppy, Fred says to the old dwarf "We've got to stop Sneed." The old dwarf raises his hand and, soft as a whisper, touches Freds face. He seems to be trying to memorize Freds features by touch. Satisfied, the old dwarf takes Freds hands in his and looks at Fred with his sightless eyes. The old dwarf speaks, "Are you brave enough to trust me and go on a dangerous mission? If we succeed, we will stop Sneed, save the prince and your parents, and stop my people from doing a terrible wrong." Fred says "But if we fail?" The old dwarf says "If we fail, it will mean our deaths. If you say no, I will understand...you are just a small boy. I will still help you rescue your parents. It is your choice."
