At last! Sweet relief from the infernal monotony of the cube maze!
Although the room in which Fred finds himself is small, it is at least
different and relatively cube-free, and that is enough for now. Unsure whether he's lost the Keeper of the Cubes in the twists and turns of the maze, or if the damnable warden is hot on his trail, Fred quickly surveys his surroundings. There is much that is unfamiliar here -- strange and shiny chests and wardrobes of indeterminate material and various dull colors -- but they are not so alien as to be incomprehensible. Altogether, the room and its contents give the impression of a small kitchen of sorts, or perhaps a larder. This familiarity calls to the adventurer in Fred. A latch is a latch, afterall, and a door is a door; all Fred need do is open them -- carefully, so as not to set off any traps, magical or otherwise! -- and search their contents for something useful or valuable. Or tasty. Fred suddenly registers for the first time an aroma that, though strangely spiced, is reminiscent of chicken stew.
