Open Mouth, Insert Foot, get HONKED

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 85480

This of course leads soon enough to a somewhat strained silence. While Horus had not been exactly impolite, he had been somewhat . . .cool towards her and her crew (all but one being human). Sikozu sighs, nodding slightly. She should have expected this, in the end. Cautious one, this fellow.

That and definitely more . . .observant than a lot of the other human beings running about (if a Primarch could actually be considered really human, what with all the genetic tweaks and such). It was as if the law enforcer types (and other emergency responders) were blind to the oddity of a power armored huge man and a bunch of ray gun totting aliens presented them.

If only she knew about “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the Sunnyvale Syndrome, she’d understand the reason more fully. As it was, there was something in the air that was making now the hair on the back of her neck stand up on end. She didn’t feel like staying here much longer.

As for Horus?

He had asked about something about a “Horus Heresy”, wanting to know whatever she could tell him on the matter. The little children had tried to explain it all, but had somewhat distorted the tale as only a child could. Making it perfectly understandable to a child but utterly incomprehensible to an adult, alas.

“I fear that I cannot tell you everything you ask for about those you’ve encountered,” the red headed ship’s captain says finally, after being asked about Rei and her friends.

Frankly, a lot of what you asked was NONE of your business, she adds to herself.

She could tell many things about Rei and her friends which would be a violation of trust. She was something of, if not a close friend of their’s, was a friend of their’s so wasn’t going to just dish out the dirt!

“I will suggest that you ask questions like that directly to them the next time . . .but do it with tact,” she added. “That or at least with me being well CLEAR of the area, perhaps?”

Not that this “Warmaster” Horus had been anything but diplomatic, but still she knew that Rei probably wouldn’t react at all very well to certain lines of questioning if she felt her privacy was being invaded. And being something of an accomplished mage, she had the ability to make anyone who’d press the issue to hard (like with say violence or threats of violence) regret it.

That and the fact that Horus had already gotten (unintentionally) on Rei and friends bad side earlier....

And meeting the Quatermain sisters and friends was a given for Horus, alas. He had already (politely) declined the offered “lift” to a more advanced planet where the Primarch could attempt to contact this Imperium of Mankind he mentioned coming from since this world wasn’t (yet) advanced enough for interstellar communication and such.

Not that she had ever heard of such a place and NOT that she wished to visit such a mad place, from what little she could understand the little children following Horus around like ducklings babbled about.

“And while I would gladly act as a mediator between yourself and her group I fear that I cannot for . . .various reasons I shan’t go into right now,” Sikozu said, in a tone that implied she was implacable in this stance.

She knew for a fact from prior conversations with the Champions back at the Moon Kingdom that Rei’s group had been on assignment. On an Official Quest....

From prior experience with Quest, when she inadvertently got mixed into it (re: 40903), she knew that she wanted to keep her distance. Frankly, she did not want to get mixed in with business that might even have a small chance of the chaos and danger on the level of that alien life form from “The Thing” any time too soon, thank you very MUCH!

“As another suggestion--one you are not obligated in any way at taking but one I would thank you to at least take into consideration....” the Kalish woman begins to advise right before she and her companions make their leave of this ODD town, only to be interrupted by the sound . . .of a blaring horn of a car!

Meanwhile, back with Rei and the gang over at Ethan’s...

“Oh my bloody god!” Ethan Rayne muttered painfully, clutching at his assaulted ears which were still ringing from the audible glamour a rather incensed Rei Ayanami Quatermain had thrown at him.

A now somewhat groggy and battered store proprietor/chaos mage owlishly blinks at the blue haired woman before him, bemused despite being under quickest set of charm/truth spells he’d ever been exposed to in his lifetime!

Rei is somewhat bemused herself. It was as if the man had NO magical resistance at all to spell work. Perhaps that was a side effect or price he’d paid for that ill conceived wish Rayne had supposedly made? The spell she’d cast shouldn’t have been so loud at all! Natural resistance should have made the resultant noise startling, not deafening like that!

Powerful magics like wish spells always had a HIGH price to pay, in one way or another. Well, almost always...

“Now sir,” Lilith put in from the side, playing the ‘good cop’ in this dance. “No need to get insulting in regards to another‘s religious beliefs. And for the record, I was never anywhere near Babylon, much less one of THOSE kinds of women of the night.”

“Now back to this list of costumes you sold last night,” Reika says, holding up a hand written inventory and shaking her head at sloppy inventory taking.

Rayne had had the bad taste at saying something snippy, something about Lilith’s Christian cross and the Whore of Babylon....

  1. “Excuse me but who in the bloody Hellexactly are you people?” a now rather vexed Watcher asks from the side, interrupting things.
