"I hope it wasn't my pink pyjamas that frightened him," Astra said.

"They're not that bad," Fred said. Velus, back in human form but still unable to speak, barked his agreement.

"That reminds me that, now that I have seen to my clothes, I ought to try a spell to get you your voice back," Astra said.

1. Velus gave one bark to indicate "yes".
2. Velus barked twice, which under the code that he and Fred had worked out meant "no". "I think he's a bit nervous about what might happen, given that it took you three attempts to get your clothes spell even roughly right," Fred said.
3. Before Velus could indicate whether he was willing, the dwarf reappeared. "Why did you run off like that, and why have you come back?" Astra asked.
