Stacy in turn visited the bathroom, and read Julie's note. It said: "I'll try to tweak my own jammer to get the extra power to counter the stronger signal. When I see you this evening, we'll swap jammers. I just hope they haven't changed the frequency as well." Stacy flushed the note down the toilet, which seemed the safest way of getting rid of it, then rejoined Hooker.

The rest of the day seemed to pass very slowly to Stacy, but at least nothing occurred to give her any cause for alarm. That evening saw her pacing up and down her room, waiting for Julie Wu's knock.

  1. Which duly came.
  2. Someone opened the door without knocking, causing Stacy to jump guiltily.
  3. The evening dragged on. At 11:30pm, Julie still hadn't knocked. Wouldn't Zimmermann be back on the premises soon?
