Fred awakens to find himself hanging by his feet. He lets out a startled
yelp that echoes through the caverns. He looks in all directions to see
how far from the edge he is, but sees nothing but blackness. He can't even
see his hand in front of his face. "OK, relax," he tells himself. "I've been in worse situations before. Oh yeah? Like when? Remember that time... Liar! Hey, I didn't finish! You didn't need to. Oh, great, now I'm speaking to myself." Fred climbs up himself to get to whatever is holding him up. He feels a rope around his ankles. It's not very thick and could easily be cut by a knife. Fred reaches to his side to grab his knife, but feels nothing but air and bare skin. Fred now realizes he is completely naked, and also very cold. He also feels a piece of cloth covering his eyes. He tears at the blindfold and tosses it away. Now that he can see again, Fred knows just how dire his situation is. About 20 feet away is a troll sitting at a campfire, gnawing on some bones. Fred looks down and sees a deep chasm with the bottom so far away it is barely visible. Fred looks up and sees the rope is tied to a stalactite. The edge of the chasm is 5 feet away, yet unreachable in his current state. Fred thinks up a plan.
